All of students had a great opportunity to participate in the International Symposium on Tropical Diseases which was held in Faculty of Medicine UGM on March 16-17 2016. This symposium was conducted as part of Annual Scientific Meeting which was organized regularly to celebrate the FM UGM anniversary.

This symposium aimed to provide an up-date, related to the situation of tropical diseases in Asia and Africa, especially in Indonesia. During this 2 day symposium, students learned about global strategy for NTD Control, Epidemiology and Challenge on Tropical Disease Control in Indonesia, and National Malaria Control Program. Some speakers also presented current research related to Neglected Tropical Diseases.

NTD Consortium in Asia and Africa (NIDIAG Consortium) highlighted NTDs  from syndromic approaches, while Dengue Group (IDAMS – International research consortium on Dengue risk Assessment) explored the problem in diagnosing Dengue as well as highlighted the epidemiology, treatment and its intervention vector. One Health research group, the SNDDZ (Strategic Network on Neglected Tropical Diseases and Zoonosis) shared experiences in implementing one health concept including how to control zoonotic diseases that potentially became an outbreak in tropical countries including Indonesia.
