LIVING IN YOGYAKARTA

Yogyakarta (also called Yogya or Jogja) is located in the middle of the island of Java. It is a very affordable place to live as a student. There are approximately one hundred thirty-seven universities in Yogyakarta, which have several categories including academics, polytechnics, colleges, institutes, and universities. Therefore, Yogyakarta is known as the city of education in Indonesia.

One of the oldest and largest universities in Indonesia is located in Yogyakarta, Universitas Gadjah Mada. As a World-Class Research University, Universitas Gadjah Mada pays special attention to research activities and encourages lecturers and students to carry out and develop various researches oriented to meet the needs of the nation.

Most higher education institutions in Yogyakarta have good buildings, guaranteed quality, and good accreditation. Thus, many students from various cities come to Yogyakarta to gain knowledge and pursue higher education. Yogyakarta is also famous for its affordable living cost, another reason why this city is known to be the perfect place for students.

Yogyakarta is the only city in Indonesia that is ruled by a monarchy. It is home to historical temples and beautiful Javanese art and culture. Yogyakarta is also known for its beautiful and soothing gamelan music. There are also Wayang Golek, Ramayana Ballet Dance, Macapat, Wayang Kulit, Wayang Orang, and others that you can find at various tourist attractions. 

Yogyakarta also offers a lot of tourist attractions for nature lovers, famous for its beautiful black sand beach in the south. At the southern coast of Yogyakarta, exist another beautiful regency called Gunungkidul, which offer rough and wild but exotic white sand beaches such as: Baron, Kukup, Krakal, Drini, Sepanjang, Sundak, Siung Beach, Wediombo and Sadeng. Some of these beaches provide fresh fish and other sea products supplied by local fisherman.
