Yogyakarta (also called Yogya or Jogja) is located in the middle of the island of Java. It is a very affordable place to live as a student. Yogyakarta is the only city in Indonesia that is ruled by a monarchy. It is home to historical temples and beautiful Javanese art and culture. Yogyakarta is also known for its beautiful and soothing gamelan music. There are also Wayang Golek, Ramayana Ballet Dance, Macapat, Wayang Kulit, Wayang Orang, and others that you can find at various tourist attractions. 

Yogyakarta also offers a lot of tourist attractions for nature lovers, famous for its beautiful black sand beach in the south. At the southern coast of Yogyakarta, exist another beautiful regency called Gunungkidul, which offer rough and wild but exotic white sand beaches such as: Baron, Kukup, Krakal, Drini, Sepanjang, Sundak, Siung Beach, Wediombo and Sadeng. Some of these beaches provide fresh fish and other sea products supplied by local fisherman.
