The WHO TDR UGM Special Programme in Implementation Research conducted a Manuscript Writing Workshop for Batch 5 students at Novotel Solo from August 9th to 11th, 2023. This event is part of the regular agenda organized by the WHO TDR IR management to encourage and monitor the progress of students in completing their scientific manuscript works. In her opening remarks, dr. E. Elsa Herdiana Muhandarwati, M.Kes., Ph.D., expressed her hope that this workshop would serve as a platform for students to learn more about manuscript writing for publication and to prepare them for the anticipated journals.
On the first day, students received a presentation on Introducing Google Scholar and PubMed, as well as the criteria that editors of top-tier journals look for in a manuscript. This presentation was delivered by Prof. dr. Ari N Probandari, MPH., Ph.D., and her team. The agenda continued on the second day, focusing on the writing process and the stages to be undertaken before composing a publication. During the second-day agenda, students were provided with material on the stages of effective article writing. Additionally, they were given guidance on crafting articles that maintain consistency from abstract to conclusion.
Besides listening to the presentation materials, students were assigned to develop articles that were already in progress as part of their thesis completion phase. Subsequently, their thesis advisors would provide feedback during thesis guidance sessions. This Manuscript Writing Workshop is a regular part of the agenda organized by the WHO TDR UGM Special Programme in Implementation Research Management, aimed at enabling students to produce publication manuscripts suitable for submission to both international and national journals.
