The curriculum
The Special Program in Implementation Research on Tropical Diseases is a combination of the core curriculum of Public Health Sciences and Tropical Medicine. The core curriculum of Public Health Sciences is in accordance with the Guideline of the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH). The curriculum for Implementation Research course is similar to the Implementation Research and Practice course offered by the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The duration of study varies between 20 – 24 months of full time study. After fulfillment of all requirements, students are awarded a Master in Public Health (MPH) degree.
The program curriculum consists of participatory teaching methods such as mini-lecture, case study, field-study, and course project. The students also participated in extra-curricular activities such as enculturation and Bahasa Indonesia language course and social activities with local students in the Graduate Programs on Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
In the first semester, students will receive the core of Public Health courses. In the second semester, the students’ compulsory courses. In the third semester, the elective courses will be offered. The students will start to develop their proposals in the third semester. Data collection is conducted in the students’ home countries. At the end of the fourth semester, students are required to defend their thesis.
In the previous fourth batches, other than academic activities, our Faculty also conducted non-academic activities to support their soft skills and survival to life in Yogyakarta. Indonesian language courses will be provided. To familiarize the students with the local context, we offer enculturation activities by conducting live in the local village. Outbound was conducted to strengthen engagement among students and between students and the management of the program. Students were also involved in the study program and faculty activities to engage with regular students from other tracks.
