Many experts have suggested integrating mental health care into primary care to help bridge the mental health care gap. General practitioners (GP) are the first healthcare worker to be called upon to treat patients with mental disorders. In Indonesia, the WHO mhGAP has been systematically introduced to a network of 10,000 primary care clinics as additional mental health training for doctors and nurses pairs, since late 2015. In one of 34 provinces, there is an integrated care model:  co-location of clinical psychologists in primary care clinics. This study evaluated the outcomes of patients who were given mental health care by General Practitioners and those treated by clinical psychologists in primary care. read more

This study highlights the high rates of dengue fever in the Philippines and affects mostly children in urban areas. In 2016, the Philippines started mass dengue vaccination in three urban areas including Metro Manila. When vaccinations for children are started, most vaccinations are not accompanied by parental consent, especially in Metro Manila. Therefore, this study aims to describe the acceptance of the dengue vaccine before and after the suspension of the vaccine program in the urban poor area. read more

The study was conducted in Yogyakarta and discussed the development and application of community-based smoke-free home (SFH) interventions that seek to make SFH the new social norm.The background of this study is the situation in Indonesia as a country that has one of the highest rates of male smoking in the world (67%) and second-hand smoke (SHS) occurs in more than 70% of households. But unfortunately, there are still a few studies that investigate public awareness of the dangers of second-hand smoke (SHS) and efforts to implement a smoke-free house (SFH) policy. read more

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the ministry of tourism and the ministry of health for the development of international health tourism at the National Tourism Coordination Meeting held  26th to 27th September 2017 (Jakarta Post, 2017). read more

dr. Riris Andono Ahmad, MPH., PhD.

dr. Riris Andono Ahmad, MPH, Ph.D., currently serves as Director of the Center for Tropical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing (FKKMK) Gadjah Mada University. He also serves as Secretary of the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Population Health as well as the coordinator of the Course of Field Epidemiology Training Program for the FKKMK Postgraduate Program. dr. Riris Andono Ahmad, MD, MPH, Ph.D. is a doctor who earned a master’s degree in public health at Umeå International School of Public Health, Epidemiology and Public Health Sciences, Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden. He pursued a doctoral degree in the Department of Public Health, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He has experience as a consultant in the health sector, a senior researcher, and on several occasions was involved as a WHO temporary adviser, Development of Good Health Research Practice Course Module. read more

Dr. Yodi Mahendradhata, MSc., PhD.

Dr. Yodi Mahendradhata is currently the Vice Dean for Research and Development, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada. He is a medical doctor by training and he obtained a Master degree in International Health from the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Charite Medical Faculty, Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany. Dr Mahendradhata completed his Doctorate in Medical Science at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, Belgium and Ghent University, Belgium. He is currently leading the South East Asia Regional Training Center for Health Research supported by WHO-TDR. He has led developments of national strategy for implementation research, national strategy for tuberculosis control and country proposals to the Global fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. His research interests are in the fields of global health, implementation science, disease control, health policy and health program management. Dr Mahendradhata was an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation visiting scholar at the Institute of Public Health, Heidelberg University, Germany. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer reviewed articles published in reputable international journals. He has been awarded the Scopus Young Scientist Award by the United Nations University, Elsevier and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. read more

Prof. dr. Adi Utarini, MSc, MPH, PhD

Prof. dr. Adi Utarini, M.Sc, MPH, Ph.D. was graduated from Gadjah Mada University School of Medicine in 1989, then she completed her Master of Science in Maternal and Child Health from the University of College London in 1994 (British Council Awards), Master of Public Health in 1998 and Doctor of Philosophy from Umea University Sweden in 2002 (STINT and TDR Awards). In 2011 she was awarded as Professor in Public Health. She teaches Policy and Quality Management courses and Research Methods. She is also a member of the National Research Council since 2015 and has served as Deputy Dean for research, community service and collaboration at the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing, Gadjah Mada University (2012-2016). In line with his academic activities, she is still actively playing the piano, table tennis, and enjoys cycling. read more
