WHO-TDR IR Guest Lecture: Improving Public Health through Implementation Research

FK-KMK UGM. Special Program of Implementation Research, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) UGM held a Guest Lecture themed “How to Conduct an Implementation Research: Lesson Learned”. The event presented two speakers, Dr. Emmanuel Asampong from the University of Ghana and Dr. Mahnaz Vahedi from the TDR, who shared their experiences and strategies in conducting implementation research.

Dr. Emmanuel Asampong discusses his research project focused on improving the effectiveness of Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Net (LLIN) distribution campaigns in Ghana. This qualitative research used a participatory approach with multiple methods, including focus group discussions (FGDs), key interviews, and a baseline survey analyzed through the Community Health Advocacy Team (CHAT) framework. read more

FK-KMK UGM Students Present at the Asia Pacific Conference in Malaysia

FK-KMK UGM. Students of the Implementation Research program at the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing UGM participated in the 8th Asia Pacific Conference on Public Health, held from July 9-11, 2024, in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, under the theme “Revitalising Public Health for a Resilient Future.”

Twelve students from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing UGM attended the conference as delegates, poster presenters, and oral presenters. Four students participated as oral presenters. read more

Three Implementation Research Students Participated in the 12th UGM Public Health Symposium

FK-KMK UGM. Three students from the WHO-TDR Implementation Research program at the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) UGM participated in oral presentations at the 12th UGM Public Health Symposium on Wednesday (12/06) at Tahir Foundation Building, 2nd Floor North Wing, FK-KMK UGM.

The students, Sudip Nepal, Shreya Khanal, and Pramila Aryal, are from the 6th Batch of the Implementation Research program. They delivered their oral presentations both in-person and online. Sudip Nepal presented his research titled “Fidelity of implementation of healthcare provider-oriented care and support to people with leprosy for disability prevention and management in Rupandehi district, Nepal.” read more

Thesis Writing Workshop 2024

FK-KMK UGM. The Implementation Research Program of WHO TDR, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, UGM, conducted a thesis writing workshop on Monday, (27/05) at Artotel Suites Bianti, Yogyakarta. The workshop was attended by all students of Implementation Research and International Health Batch 6.

This two-day workshop aimed to monitor students in completing their theses. The agenda of the thesis writing workshop began with a presentation from Prof. dr. Ari N Probandari, MPH, Ph.D., on completing student theses. She delivered a session titled “Get your thesis done: a practical guideline for your thesis and manuscript submission.” read more

Health Systems Global (HSG) is organizing a pre-conference in Katowice, Poland, from June 19-21, 2024, leading up to the 8th Global Symposium on Health Policy and Systems Research in Nagasaki, Japan, this November.

Thanks to generous funding from WHO TDR, we’re offering a scholarship for 11 researchers, with priority for early career researchers from low- or middle-income countries in the WHO Europe Region.

IR Batch 5 Goes to Mahidol University for A Study Visit

IR FK-KMK UGM. The Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) conducted a study visit to the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Thailand. This study visit aimed to broaden students’ understanding of current public health practices and their implementation in Thailand.

The delegation from FK-KMK UGM consisted of 24 participants, including faculty members, staff, and students of Batch 5 from the Implementation Research program at FK-KMK UGM. The visit to Mahidol University took place over three days (October 17-19, 2023). read more

Manuscript Writing Workshop for Batch 5

The WHO TDR UGM Special Programme in Implementation Research conducted a Manuscript Writing Workshop for Batch 5 students at Novotel Solo from August 9th  to 11th, 2023. This event is part of the regular agenda organized by the WHO TDR IR management to encourage and monitor the progress of students in completing their scientific manuscript works. In her opening remarks, dr. E. Elsa Herdiana Muhandarwati, M.Kes., Ph.D., expressed her hope that this workshop would serve as a platform for students to learn more about manuscript writing for publication and to prepare them for the anticipated journals. read more

Practical and Field Visit Sessions for Zoonoses and Vector Control Course in Salatiga

IR FK-KMK UGM. Students of the Special Program in Implementation Research WHO-TDR, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FMPHN), UGM visited. Research and Development Center for Disease Vectors and Reservoirs (B2P2VRP) in Salatiga (22-23/06). They participated in practical and field visit sessions. The group was welcomed by Ibu Lulus Susanti, SKM., MPH as the acting Head of B2P2VRP Salatiga.

All theories regarding Vector-Borne and Zoones Diseases Control were delivered on the first day in 3 sessions, which included; Vector-Borne Diseases in Indonesia, an Overview of Leptospirosis, and Community Empowerment For Controlling Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases. Besides the theories given in the classroom, students joined the field practice activity. They were involved directly in collecting mosquito larvae, capturing mosquitoes outdoors, and monitoring cattle pens during nighttime. This practical exercise took place in one of the villages located in the Tuntang sub-district of Semarang Regency. read more

Thesis Monitoring of Implementation Research’s Students Batch 5

On Friday (14/04), the UGM Special Program of Implementation Research on Tropical Diseases conducted a thesis monitoring activity for Batch 5 students. The activity was attended by program management, supervisors, Batch 5 students, and academic staff, and was opened by Dr. E. Elsa Herdiana Murhandarwati, M.Kes., Ph.D, the program coordinator.

In this session, Prof. dr. Ari Probadnari, MPH., Ph.D  as the coordinator of academics provided information to the students on how to complete their research and thesis on time. She also outlined the guidelines for submitting publications to various international journals. This monitoring activity is a regular event in the Implementation Research program’s schedule for every batch. The program management facilitates all students to receive some suggestions directly from their supervisors. read more
