IR Batch 5 Goes to Mahidol University for A Study Visit

IR FK-KMK UGM. The Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) conducted a study visit to the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Thailand. This study visit aimed to broaden students’ understanding of current public health practices and their implementation in Thailand.

The delegation from FK-KMK UGM consisted of 24 participants, including faculty members, staff, and students of Batch 5 from the Implementation Research program at FK-KMK UGM. The visit to Mahidol University took place over three days (October 17-19, 2023). read more

Practical and Field Visit Sessions for Zoonoses and Vector Control Course in Salatiga

IR FK-KMK UGM. Students of the Special Program in Implementation Research WHO-TDR, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FMPHN), UGM visited. Research and Development Center for Disease Vectors and Reservoirs (B2P2VRP) in Salatiga (22-23/06). They participated in practical and field visit sessions. The group was welcomed by Ibu Lulus Susanti, SKM., MPH as the acting Head of B2P2VRP Salatiga.

All theories regarding Vector-Borne and Zoones Diseases Control were delivered on the first day in 3 sessions, which included; Vector-Borne Diseases in Indonesia, an Overview of Leptospirosis, and Community Empowerment For Controlling Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases. Besides the theories given in the classroom, students joined the field practice activity. They were involved directly in collecting mosquito larvae, capturing mosquitoes outdoors, and monitoring cattle pens during nighttime. This practical exercise took place in one of the villages located in the Tuntang sub-district of Semarang Regency. read more

Learning About Vaccines in Bio Farma, from Production to Distribution Throughout the Country

Students from three postgraduate’s degree programs in the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) at UGM visited PT Bio Farma Bandung on Monday (20/03). This visit was part of the Strategy to Improve Supply and Utilization of Drugs and Vaccine for Tropical Diseases course for Master’s students in Tropical Medicine and Implementation Research. In addition to these two programs, Master’s students in Biomedical Science with a concentration in pharmacology also participated. read more

Implementation Research Students Visitation to Hospitals and Prisons in Yogyakarta

Implementation Research students in the even semester of 2022/2023 take two mandatory courses that have been accredited by TropEd. These two courses are “Infection Control: Theory and Practice” and “Strategy to Improve Supply and Utilization of Drugs and Vaccines for Tropical Diseases”.

The current ongoing course is “Infection Control: Theory and Practice”. Students receive various information related to controlling and preventing infections in the community.

To support the theory learned in class, students are taken to visit three different institutions. They are taken on a tour of Sardjito Hospital to see how the hospital serves patiens, the facilities provided, the hospital laboratory, and the waste disposal process. read more

Social Culture Event for IR-TDR Batch 5 in Tembi Tourism Village, Bantul

For two days (15-16/07), IR-TDR Batch 5 students participated in Social Culture activities at Tembi Tourism Village in Bantul. This activity is part of the cultural introduction and student interaction with the Indonesian community. A total of 18 students from various countries participated in the series of events. The first activity was to make batik. Students create batik motifs using provided patterns. They also observed the coloring process, which resulted in the final product of batik cloth. read more

Student Field Visit to the Institute of Vector and Reservoir Control Research and Development (B2P2VRP), Salatiga

Last June (29-30/06), Implementation Research students of FKKMK UGM and several Master Students of Tropical Medicine visited the Institute of Vector and Reservoir Control Research and Development (B2P2VRP) in Salatiga.

Students participated in a variety of activities while accompanied by lecturers dr. E. Esa Herdiana Muhandarwati, M.Kes., Ph.D and Dr. Dra. Retna Siwi Padmawati, MA. On the first day, students were given information on Salatiga’s B2P2VRP profile as well as lectures from B2P2VRP. read more

IR Batch 5 Visits WMP Yogyakarta Entomology Laboratory

Group of Implementation Research students with some peers from Tropical Medicine Master Program visited World Mosquito Program (WMP) Yogyakarta Laboratory on Jalan Podocarpus I, Sekip N-14, Senolowo, Sinduadi, Sleman on Thursday (23/06).

Riris Andono Ahmad, MPH, Ph.D as part of WMP team welcomed and briefly explained the profile of the WMP Yogyakarta, as well as information about mosquitoes with Wolbachia.

Students were divided into two groups. Each group was accompanied by researchers to see firsthand the location of the Wolbachia mosquito production site. They also received information regarding the location of mosquito placement. The researchers also presented data on the decrease of up to 77% of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever cases at the site of the spread of Wolbachia mosquitoes. read more

Student Visits to Puskesmas, Hospitals, and Wirogunan Penitentiary Centers

In June 2022, the Implementation Research Program of Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) UGM conducted a series of field visits for its students. Among them are Community Health Center (Puskesmas) Jetis 1 Bantul, Puskesmas Mlati 2 Sleman, Respira Bantul Hospital, and Wirogunan Penitentiary Center (Lapas).

This visit is a requirement for the Infection Control course. The Infection Control course is a mandatory course for students of the Implementation Research Program, and selected courses for students of the Tropical Medicine Study Program of FK-KMK UGM. read more

Site Visit: Zoonosis Vector Control Course

Site visit to Balai Besar Pengamatan dan Pengendalian Vektor dan Reservoir Penyakit (B2P2VRP), Salatiga is part of UGM collaboration with local institution as part of class: Zoonosis Vector Control Course. Students visited the B2P2VRP Salatiga were divided into 2 periods (on Oct 25 – 26 , 2016 for batch 1 and on June 1-2, 2017 for batch 2).

During this 2 day visit, students had great opportunities to learn vectors in a short Microscopic training, learn how to collect mosquito larvae in paddy field and how to collect adult mosquito at night time. The experiences, knowledge and skills gained from this course are expected to be beneficial for their future work particularly when they returned in their home country. read more

FIELD VISIT TO SARDJITO HOSPITAL

As part of Infection Control Subjects,  students visited Sardjito Hospital (Infectious Diseases division) to give understanding the Infectious Control system in the hospital and its challenges. First batch of students visited on April 12, 2016 and second batch was on September 23, 2016.
